Suggested Titles for IPW 2010

Dear students doing IPW for the year of 2010,

First of all, congratulations to you all for reaching Secondary 2 this year! Secondary 2 will be all at once a fun and challenging year.

As you are considering the topics to base your projects/reports/video on, I have 2 themes that kept coming to my mind. I feel that these 2 topics have not been done/overdone over the years since they are relatively new, but yet the concepts have been in existence for quite a substantial amount of time.

1. GLOBAL COOLING

Very relevant to the year 2010 due to the unusually cold climate in the north during the winter season. Homes and civilisations are being devastated by the unexpected weather and hence there is a distinct lack of preparation. Some scientists are beginning to come out with the theory of "Global Cooling" - an aftereffect to the "Global Warming" which has plagued us for the last decade.


2. AUGMENTED REALITY

A science fiction concept back in the 1990's (think Arnold's THE TERMINATOR) - AR has come back full-blown to us due to the increasingly advanced technology for User Interface (UI). Movies such as MINORITY REPORT has set the world thinking about how humans should communicate with their electronic devices.


If you lack any ideas in the theme of your projects, I would strongly recommend that your group takes up the challenge in taking up either of the two topics.
